On Sunday night last Messrs. John Scullin, principal promoter; O. W. Watkins, president; and Chief Engineer Lee, of the Little Rock and North Arkansas railway, arrived in our town bringing with them the proposition submitted to our citizens by that enterprise.
A meeting of our citizens was held at the Court House Monday afternoon when Mr. Watkins explained the terms proposed, which were about as follows: Harrison to guarantee $35,000, cash, to be paid upon the arrival of the road at the town; to furnish 20 acres for depot and terminal grounds, and secure additional right-of-way to the Frazier Hollow east, or the forks, of the creek south, as the company may select later. On its side the railroad positively guarantees to have its road in operation to the town of Harrison not later than the 15th of April next.
Without any discussion a motion was unanimously adopted by the meeting to accept the proposition. A list of subscriptions to this fund was started at once, and at the third meeting Wednesday it was found that the amount raised was sufficiently large that a proper committee would feel safe in guaranteeing the full amount as soon as the minor details of the agreement could be legally arranged.
Before returning to Eureka Thursday Messrs. Scullin, Watkins and Lee visited the Murray property just east of town, where it was proposed to locate the depot, and expressed themselves as satisfied with it in every particular.
The list of subscribers to the cash bonus, with amounts given, is as follows:
